Cancer is a disease that is increasing in incidence, likely eclipsing heart disease as the leading cause of death for Canadians. At the current time 1/3 Canadians can expect to be diagnosed with cancer, and and 1/4 Canadians can expect to die from it.
With these current level of statistics, millions of Canadians can expect to go through allopathic medical treatment for cancer at some point in their lifetimes. Conventional chemotherapy, surgery and radiation do indeed have a beneficial effect in cancer treatment. Dr Paul does believe in conventional cancer care, and encourages patients to utilize allopathic diagnostics and therapeutics.
However, conventional therapeutics often have a number of negative side effects, from hair loss to extreme nausea and vomiting. Naturopathic medicine does an excellent job at preventing these effects, and helping patients deal with them when they do occur. A number of natural substances also exist that can actually enhance the effects of chemotherapy and radiation. These can be utilized alongside conventional therapies to increase their efficacy. Many examples exist, but a prime one is that of radiation therapy and curcumin. As this research shows, curcumin has both a radioprotective effect on normal tissues in many cancers, and a radiosensitizing effect on cancer cells, with an excellent safety profile. Despite this, Curcumin is not routinely given during radiation therapy, it remains, predominantly a Naturopathic therapy, adjunctive to the conventional medical system. Acupuncture, also has an increasing profile for symptom relief.
Cancer was once thought to be the result of random mutations accumulating in the body. More recent research has shown Cancer to be a product of a particular metabolic environment. Naturopathic medicine has an incredible ability to modulate this environment, and to restore it to health.
